“Always give yourselves fully to the work the Lord has given you to do,
because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”
1 Corinthians 15:58

From the Rector

There was a moment last fall when I was standing alone in the center of our newly consecrated Church. I stood in awe, admiring the beauty of this large, gothic structure, which rightly directs us to the majesty and honor of the One seated upon the throne, and to the Lamb. Awe and wonder quickly gave way to fear and terror as I wondered what we had done. What if this building would prove to be too much? What if we didn't grow? What if this building actually inhibited our mission and witness in Denton?

Fast forward one year to today. Since entering our new building in August 2024, we have grown by 19% and now exceed our pre-pandemic worship attendance. At the end of September, we hosted our largest new member's dinner to date, and our parish is overflowing with vibrancy in a way I have never seen. It's an exciting thing to follow Jesus at St. David's Denton right now as we witness to the reconciling love of God in Christ through ancient worship, transformative discipleship opportunities, and embodied witness in our community.

In the midst of a fearful world, Christians are those who are given to the work God has given them to do. That work does not rest on our efforts alone. As God promised long ago through St. Paul, our labor for God will never be in vain. That means that as Christians we can be bold in our service and lavish in our generosity, because we know that in the hands of the God who raised Jesus from the dead, the return on our investment in his Kingdom is certain.

I invite you to join my wife Cyndi and I as we increase our pledge to St. David's in 2026 in response to opportunities before us.

Our 2026 Budget Goal: $588,568

Thanks to your generosity, we were able to grow our income in 2025 by 14% to $525,390. In order to meet the needs of our growing congregation, we need to increase our budget again this year. A 12% growth in income will achieve our budget goal of $588,568. That increase will help us absorb expenses that range from additional coffee cups and paper to a handful of modest staff raises, expansions to our choir, and a 30% increase to our outreach budget that will help fund a ministry initiative we are days away from announcing.

As inconsequential as some of those items may seem, they represent conversations about life and discipleship that occur at coffee hour and small group studies. Other supplies account for welcoming a first-time guest to our church with a detailed bulletin and a host of resources to help them get plugged in. Every aspect of our budget contributes to the robust ministry you've come to expect from us, and for that ministry to both continue and expand, we must respond faithfully to the opportunities before us.

Why Make a Pledge?

-
Making a pledge connects us to one another. Financial pledges are examples of covenants and vows that appear in Scripture and throughout the Christian tradition (like in the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Marriage). Our annual financial pledge is a tangible sign of our faithfulness to God and our commitment to one another in the Body of Christ.

-
Pledging lends intentionally to our giving so that our financial offerings to the Lord can be acts of discipleship rather than an afterthought.

-
Your pledge makes a difference! In a growing parish, ministry needs often outpace giving. Your regular gifts to St. David's go a long way in making our ministry sustainable and responsive to the growth we are welcoming.

-
When you make a pledge, you are helping us budget for the coming year. Your pledge helps us be bold in our ministry initiatives and faithful in our stewardship of parish resources.

What You Can Do
Knowing that our labor in the Lord is not in vain, we invite you to grow in Christlike discipleship by taking the next step in your stewardship journey:

1. Make a First-Time, 12-Month Commitment
Maybe you started attending St. David’s in the past year or were not ready to make a commitment for 2025. Join us in the work God is doing here by making a first-time pledge of your support for 2026.

2. Become a Growing Giver
Help us meet the opportunities before us in 2026 by increasing your pledge. Specifically, we ask that you consider raising your pledge by 10-15% (a family who currently gives $450 per month to St. David’s would give $495 to $517 per month in 2026).

3. Become a Tither
Step up to the Biblical standard of the tithe (Numbers 18:21) and offer a gift of 10% of your income to God in 2026.

4. Go Over and Above
The generous person is someone who keeps on giving (Psalm 37:21). If you comfortably give a tithe, consider going over and above a tithe this next year.

We ask that your pledge be submitted by November 9, 2025.

Submit Your Pledge
Please submit your pledge by November 9, 2025
Almighty God, whose loving hand hath given us all that we possess: Grant us grace that we may honor thee with our substance, and, remembering the account which we must one day give, may be faithful stewards of thy bounty, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
